Howard Hughes - news Training

Back in the mid-90s I was asked, within the space of a few weeks, to fly down to the South African Broadcasting Corporation to train News Broadcasters and up to Radio Clyde to do the same for “SRH” stations across Scotland. I devised courses tailored to both – and they worked so well I was invited back.

Since then, as someone who has worked at the sharp-end, I have done training sessions for many organisations including GMG’s Breakfast Boot Camp in Leeds.

I’ve helped news staff with writing, on-air delivery and impact. I’d like to think I’ve empowered some of them to achieve things they didn’t believe they could. Nobody can teach you how to read news – at the end of the day the best advice is guidance I was given by Alex Dickson – one of the founders of Radio Clyde. He told me “be yourself laddie!” I never forgot that and I’ve tried to be true to it. But there are pointers that can help you sharpen what you do on air – this is where I can help.

I can assist stations, groups or individuals at reasonable rates – to find out more drop me an email at howardhughesmedia@yahoo.co.uk
